RENEWING THE STUDY OF RELIGION

Knowledge of religion is vital for global stability and prosperity

The Study of Religions Across Civilizations builds solidarity through religious literacy, relationship building, and scholarly companionship.

GLOBAL STABILITY THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS

Founded by Paul Heck in 2010, SORAC trains future teachers and scholars — university students — by organizing conferences focused on building friendships around the study of religion. Challenging the false notion that religion can be known through academic study apart from relationship, SORAC brings students of religion to the theological table to glean how divine guidance has been at work. It builds intellectual a networks across institutions — public and private, academic and professional — around the globe, networks that combat global instability.

WHY SORAC?

Cooperation requires companionship.

Our university students need to build their knowledge of others based on experience. We build long-term relationships between communities by studying our religions together. Not only does this build religious literacy, it also serves as the foundation of long-term, sustainable relationships that promote global stability.

Our Community

Renewing the Study of Religion

We are professors, lecturers, public school educators, and students of all levels of learning. We recognize the great need for our universities to educate students to grow their knowledge of religion as vital for global stability and prosperity. We understand that we can’t know others if we’re not in active relationship with them.

Core Approaches
